Reviews of Diecast Cars, Trucks, etc.

New Bright a prominent name in the toy grade in the radio control business for the last couple of decades.  Such as with Nikko in the past, they also have been innovative with their radio control vehicle line-up from cars to trucks over the years.  This time around we get a true 4x4 vehicle or truck actually in 1/16 scale for a low toy grade price.  This will be my summary and test drive of this vehicle.  We'll see if it is worth the cost of buying one for yourself.  I'm not expect it to have a ton of power but curious to see what this 4x4 system will do in 1/16 scale for the cheap price overall.  One of the newer items for the year 2021 going into 2022 as they feature some other truck and SUV body styles such sa the Ford Bronco Sport, Jeep Wrangler, Ford F-series pickup along with this Chevrolet Silverado.  Remember as always to visit the main reviews section for more.  All of my reviews unless otherwise stated are products that are purchased directly by me from a retail establishment either in-person or online thus they are unbiased for the most part.

New Bright 1/16 4x4 Trucks Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss Radio Control Review

Going back to when I was a kid growing up in the 1980s, it was tough to find a cheap radio control full function 4x4 off-road style truck.  Now New Bright brings us a value-priced toy grade truck.  Is it worthy of any true off-road prowess.  Let's find out if this is a hit or miss for the toy grade r/c market.  Some of their 1/15 two-wheel drive trucks were not that powerful even for some living room running around.  I know not to expect hobby-grade speed and power but in the past there were toy grade trucks out there that at least were decent in power and speed.  They were able to at least instill some fun and not frustration.  We shall see how this overall package fairs at $20.

Before getting in the 4x4 Monster Truck discussion, let's take a look at what we get in the overall package.

Street Price:  $19.99 plus shipping costs

Requirements:  Batteries Included - 2AA for Controller, USB Charged Lithium-Ion Internal Non-Removable Battery

Pros:
Four Wheel Drive (4x4)
USB Charged Internal Battery with 2AA included for Controller
2.4ghz Band
Good for flat surfaces and very slight inclines

Cons:
Poor Grass and Off-Road Power even with 4x4
Delayed Steering Response even for Toy Grade
Not Enough Torque
Short USB Charging Cable

Summary:

While New Bright 2WD 1:15 trucks in this price range do not have too much power, I was hoping this being 4x4 and Lipo-powered they would have improved this for some climbing and off-road action.  I made sure this was charged via the connected USB cable.  They are running 2.4ghz now which is great as no more need to check the boxes to make sure if buying more than one truck that they don't interfere with each other.  Overall, the truck is fine on low-pile carpet and smooth floors and can climb very small inclines for fun.

Taking it up a notch though, there is no torque or speed to climb over diecast 1/24 cars with this or other obstacles unless it has a ramp and is not too steep... the outdoor test was a failure as it was only able to go on the driveway and had no power at all even in low-cut grass and on the stones here which a higher end bigger New Bright 4x4 vehicle had no trouble with.

Considering the price point at $20 - you can't expect much but being 4x4 it is more of a novelty to proclaim the truck has 4-wheel-drive because when you do need to use it and would like to take it off-road it failed in that area.  Otherwise, you can set-up little ramps or like a notebook to drive over but don't think you can have enough power to climb and push / pull your way over things.  Again, this was not purchased with high expectations but hoped to at least be able to use the 4x4 and have climbing power.

Overall Opinion:

While can't fault the truck for what it is at the street price of $20 off the shelf, the aspects of it being 4x4 doesn't help it in the climbing or off-road capability departments.  This is more of a truck to have fun with indoors tackling some small obstacles at best but not like a full blown 4x4 crawler monster truck style vehicle.  New Bright has better well-rounded 4x4 vehicles in a slight larger scale and price point which I recommend buying instead for off-road adventures in grass and climbing, etc. similar in design to the 4x4 Jeep Trailcat On-Board Cam r/c.  One of these 4x4 crawlers which New Bright offers without the on-board camera might pop up in a future review as they share the 4x4 crawler chassis design.

I hope you enjoyed my review.  Look for more in the future as I put my own spin on these reviews and give you my own two cents regarding the fun factor, value per price paid and more.  Feel free to email me your comments / questions regarding this review.
